After a long period of Dominance by Intel in the CPU segment, the tables are turned, and AMD has shed the image of an underdog finally! AMS is on a roll with its new generation Ryzen CPUs getting rave reviews and the top-end Ryzen Threadripper 3970X being designated as the ultimate performance champion. The Ryzen CPUs are outperforming Intel Xeon and Core i9 CPUs almost on every ground, and they also offer better pricing. This is a massive victory for the chipmaker, which was long tagged as the second best to Intel. Now, AMD has processors for use in every segment, mainstream, business, and hardcore gaming or professional-level editing. The price and performance balance that AMD has been able to maintain also has a role to play in this fortune reversal.
The CPU sales data analysis makes it clear that Intel is on the back foot. In the US market, 8 out of the top 10 CPUs sold are from AMD- as per the updates. As of now, the best-selling processor in the flagship sector is Ryzen 7 2700X, which was unveiled last year. However, chances are there its spot will be taken soon by the newly unveiled 32 bit Threadripper 3970X. If the Amazon sales data is analyzed, the only Intel CPUs sit at the 5th and 6th places put of the top 10.
While this may make the AMD fans enthusiastic, there is no need to write off Intel-yet! The chipmaker is going through a low phase now. The chip production and supply woes of Intel are also making headlines nowadays. Recently, the company admitted the woes would continue for some more time. Once Intel manages to resolve this shortage- it may be able to bounce back with new models. To be fair to Intel, the Core i9-9900K is still selling in good numbers. It is a processor loved by hardcore gamers. The industry experts think a few more months will be needed to figure out if the surge of AMD is a temporary one or not.
